Learn How to Sing!
This page is devoted to beginning Choral Techniques
Let's Start at the Very Beginning!
Singing is the act of pronouncing musical sounds, vocalizing them and shaping notes to produce harmonious sounds. Singing is the production of tuneful sounds using one’s voice. Singing is a coordinated process that focuses on proper breathing, initiating the sound, echoing the sound and articulating it in a particular manner.
When you sing, your vocal cords vibrate in your Throat. You change the pitch of your notes by the vibration of your vocal cords. There are four vocal parts: The highest voice is the Soprano, then Alto (women's voices) Tenor and the lowest voice, Bass (Men's Voices). Children sing in the Soprano range. You can feel the difference between your four voices by laying a hand gently on your throat. Practice your whisper, speak, shout and singing voices!
Roller Coasters! How to Help You Find Your Headvoice!
There are two types of voices: The Chest Voice and The Head Voice. They mean what you think they mean! Singers should try to use their light voices or their "Head Voice". Think of an owl saying Who Who Whoooo! Sing as lightly as possible with plenty of air support. Many popular singers use only their chest voices, or lower voices. A good singer is easily able to switch between both voices, but proper singing uses mostly your head voice. Try this Exercise to build your head voice.

Practice, Practice, Practice!
There are many exercises that help us become better singers. Singers always warm up their voices carefully before singing.
