Yesterday, we heard Cobb High School Bands... today this is Harrison High School Women's Chorale Performing "Simple Gifts". See if you can hear the melody plus two other parts.
Good morning students and parents! I hope that you are all rested and ready to dive into distance learning! This week, I will post some virtual concerts for you to listen to and continue learning. Students, as you watch this first concert, please look for instruments that you recognize. You will not see them play individually, but you should be able to identify five instruments.
Fifth Graders have an important decision coming: Should I join band, chorus or orchestra? Our middle schools will soon be sending out information for next year. Enjoy this concert of high school students from all over Cobb County perform together. Click on the black button to play the five minute concert! Guest Appearance by Hillgrove Tri M (Music Honor Society)As you remember, Hillgrove has been one of our Partners in our Steam Journey this year, and we have enjoyed multiple performances. I can think of no better group to address my topic today: Why Music Matters to Us. In times of joy and times of sorrow, music is a way for us to rejoice and heal. Being part of a music program will literally change your life. With the news yesterday, we are sad not to return to our "physical school" but we are all still connected, and the power of music will help you! Students, listen to the music you love. Play an instrument with others. Use the power of music to help you through any crisis. I love you, and I miss you! Hear this inspirational video made especially for you, the elementary students, about the power of music from high school students. For a Thrilling Tri-M mission to discover instruments, check out the assignment page to go on an instrument safari!
Progressive Muscle RelaxationMusic has the ability to help us regulate our body systems. Music benefits us physically by slowing down our heart rate, calming our central nervous system, as well as improving our blood flow and energy. One technique to add to listening to music is doing a Progressive Muscle Relaxation Exercise. As you listen to music, you one by one tighten and release tension from every large muscle group. I have created this special Relaxation exercise for you. I did it in Garage Band, with my voice, and the background is one of my very favorite songs by Enya. Take a break! Invite your family and enjoy!
Listening to peaceful music is a great way to relax and destress. If you combine listening to music with deep breathing, it has even more benefits. Music can reduce anxiety, calm nerves, and help you physically. Listen to the piece below by Debussy called Reverie. While you listen, sit quietly and practice breathing in time with the music. Breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 7 and breathe out for 8 counts. See if the music makes you picture a beautiful place.
